Winter weather is here! We at City Tire want you to stay safe while on the roads, so here are some great tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to keep you car running smoothly in harsh, New England conditions!
Get your car serviced. Now is the best time to make sure that your car is in tip-top shape. City Tire can check your brakes, exhaust, battery, tires, wipers, fluid levels (including wiper fluid and anti-freeze) and much more! Whatever you need to make sure your car is safe on the road.
Inspect your tires. The tread on your tires is what gives you traction and keeps your car gripped to the road. Consider switching to snow tires. They are designed specifically for driving on slick roads. You should also check your air pressure. Cold weather causes the air molecules in your tires to contract, decreasing the air pressure. Low tire pressure is not only dangerous; it also lowers your gas mileage! Not sure what to look for? Bring your car in to City Tire and we’ll inspect your tires – free!
Remember to drive safe. Always allow extra time when you are traveling, especially during the holidays. Leave extra room when following a car, take your time and be cautious when entering an intersection. Make sure to keep your windshield clean; all the dirt and sludge from the roads can really affect your visibility. Keep a road-side emergency kit in your car complete with a car charger for your cell phone, snacks, water, blankets, flares, and tools to repair a flat tire. Remember, it’s better to prevent an accident than to worry about what to do after one!
